Video: Dr. Lustig Exclusive Lecture to JumpstartMD, Dangers of Sugar – Part 1

Robert H. Lustig, M.D.’s commentary in this month’s Nature made national headlines this week when the piece was covered by the Los Angeles Times, NPR, and others.  Citing the negative impact sugar has on our health, Lustig calls for government regulation. The JumpstartMD team hosted Dr. Lustig at a company lecture in 2011, and heard first-hand why he believes our consumption of sugar is toxic, and should be regarded similarly to other regulated substances such as alcohol and tobacco.  His assessment of sugar’s role in our current health crisis is spot on, and we’re very proud to share his JumpstartMD lecture with you as a four-part series.  Part one appears today, two, three and four will be posted in the upcoming two weeks.

Dr. Lustig is a neuroendocrinologist and Professor of Clinical Pediatrics, in the Division of Endocrinology at the University of California, San Francisco.  He is currently investigating the contribution of nutritional, neural, hormonal, and genetic influences in the expression of the current obesity epidemic both in children and adults.
